From the beginning of the academic year, our transition year students have been perfecting their business ideas for their mini companies. On Friday 9th February, they took part in the Student Enterprise Awards Competition in our school where they showcased their business ideas. The competition is run by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) and our entrepreneurs were interviewed by the judges about the process they had just gone through. The judges were, Sinead Fannon (Marketing Consultant), Ann Brown (LEO) and Jeremy Cullen (LEO). We owe them a huge debt of gratitude for their support and advice to students on setting up and running a company.
We would like to congratulate our students for their hard work and commitment and a huge well done to all who took part.

Best Interview and Presentation Skills
On Thursday 15th February, Roscommon Community College welcomed 6th class students to a ‘Fun Ice-Breaker Day’ in the school. All 6th class students are looking forward to joining the student population here in the school in September 2018.
The day was filled with activities for all interests and abilities. Students took part in engaging science experiments, worked as a team to create artistic masterpieces, broke the ice with some challenging sporting tasks and learned some new moves in Zumba! This day allowed students to get to know each other and establish connections before they begin in first year.
It was great opportunity for staff to meet with all incoming students and to enjoy all of the activities with them. We are looking forward to welcoming all new students into the school in the coming academic year.

Second year German language students were delighted to attend a film screening of the new, coming-of-age German film, ‘Goodbye Berlin’ with their teachers Ms. Dennigan, Mr. Mannion and Roscommon Community College’s German Language Assistant Ms. Danner on Tuesday 20th February. The screening took place in the Arts Centre. An enjoyable experience was had by all.
Congratulations to Michael Staunton who was recently selected for the Irish U17 Badminton team. Michael, along with three others were selected to represent Ireland for the coming year. The Irish under 17 team will compete against Belgium in an international friendly followed by the Victor Jot U17 individual event in Edegem Belgium. The event will take place over the Easter weekend March 29th. This is a hugely prestigious honour and opportunity for an excellent student that has placed a great emphasis on excelling in both sporting and academic fields.
