LECARROW COMMUNITY NATIONAL SCHOOL TO OPEN UNDER THE PATRONAGE OF GALWAY AND ROSCOMMON EDUCATION AND TRAINING BOARD
Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB) is delighted to announce that Lecarrow Community National School, formerly St. John’s National School, Lecarrow, County Roscommon, will re-open for the 2019/2020 school year under the patronage of GRETB. This follows the transfer of patronage from the Diocese of Elphin to GRETB. It will be the first Community National school in County Roscommon and offers a progressive model of primary education underpinned by a unique multidenominational ethos.
Community National Schools are managed by Education and Training Boards and are publicly funded, publicly managed, multidenominational schools which welcome all children from the local communities they serve.
David Leahy, Chief Executive of Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board expressed his gratitude for all who made this new school possible. “I would like to thank in particular Bishop Kevin Doran and Fr Ray Milton P.P. for their support and confidence in GRETB. GRETB which is already patron to 20 post primary schools in Galway and Roscommon, believes that more diversity is required to meet the changing needs of our population and is excited to work with staff, pupils, parents and the wider community of Lecarrow Community National School in delivering greater choice in primary education in County Roscommon. Having GRETB as patron means the school will benefit from a broad range of services and supports for their Board of Management and staff, such as administrative, financial, IT, HR, corporate governance and buildings. This ensures that the staff of the school have more time to focus on excellence in teaching and learning.”
