Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB) Further Education and Training Centre, Dunmore
The former Dunmore Vocational School, now the GRETB Further Education and Training Centre, is offering a vast range of courses to learners in the North Galway town and surrounding areas. Since a full-time GRETB presence was established in the centre in September, 2016, the number of learners undertaking day, evening and night courses has increased substantially.
This was evidenced by the large number of learners achieving certification, at an awards function held in the centre in November 2017. There was a wide array of certificates presented, from QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland Awarding Authority) Levels 1-6 in Healthcare, Childcare, Horticulture, Cookery, Information Technology, etc.
Dunmore also hosted Contracted Training Courses in conjunction with the GRETB Training Centre, Mervue. These courses were a great success and two groups were awarded certification in Groundwork Skills, Door Security and Guarding Skills.
The suite of programmes on offer in Dunmore also extended to courses under the Community Education Initiative, and included hosting Computers for Farmers, Cookery for Men, Millinery, Cake Decorating and Hanging Basket Design.
The Centre Co-Ordinator and staff are currently working with local crèches and preschool facilities in upskilling their staff to QQI Level 6 under the self-financing model.
This centre is now a vibrant education and training facility providing childcare, horticulture, IT, culinary skills, wet trade skills such as plastering and paving, and other courses as the demands dictate.
Daily activity in the centre include:
• One to One and Group Adult Basic Education Classes
• ESOL Classes
• Guidance Service Information Sessions
• Community Education Classes
• Contracted Training provision
• Self-Financing Classes
• Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) courses
Adult learners in the Dunmore and surrounding areas have certainly welcomed this training and education facility which is evidenced by the increased numbers embracing the many opportunities to upskill. GRETB too is doing its bit by responding positively to the National Skills/Economic Agenda in the North Galway area. GRETB is committed to ensuring that the courses on offer in the Dunmore Centre lead to progression to Further and Higher Education as well as to job opportunities.
Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in upskilling or reskilling, we will be delighted to assist you on your learning or relearning journey.
