Cavan Adult Education Services is a vibrant, dynamic service which is growing year on year. Annually, we provide education, training and other support services to more than 1,000 individuals throughout the county and we work in close contact with a range of other service providers, from both the public sector as well as the community and voluntary sector.

Monaghan

Cavan & Monaghan ETB’s Adult and Further Education programme is organised and co-ordinated in Co Monaghan by the Adult Education Organiser (AEO), Dr Fiona McGrath. The AEO is supported by the Adult Education Board comprised of representatives from NEHB, FAS, IFA, MACRA, Teagasc, Co Partnership, Adult Literacy Scheme, Second Level Schools, ETB, ICA as well as business and community organisations. Services and programmes provided in Co Monaghan include adult and community education classes, literacy service, VTOS programme, adult guidance service, I.T. outreach training, F.E. courses, BTEI programme etc.

AEGIS offers information, advice and guidance on training, education and careers for adults who are interested in returning to education.

Cavan and Monaghan ETB provides part-time Further Education programmes including literacy for adults wishing to return to education.

What is Literacy?

Literacy involves listening, speaking, reading, writing, numeracy and using everyday technology to communicate and handle information. It includes more than the technical skills of communication (reading, writing and spelling): it also has personal, social and economic dimensions. Literacy increases the opportunity for individuals and communities to reflect on their situation explore new possibilities and initiate change.
The service is free and confidential and may be offered on a one to one basis or in small groups depending on individual needs. Classes are available countywide.

Other programmes available are FETAC Level 1, 2, 3 and 4 single modules and full certificates, Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate.
