AONTAS LAUNCH 2015

The V.T.O.S. centre in Castlerea is situated in the former vocational school building thus continuing the GRETB tradition of involvement in education in the town. This building is also the venue for Autumn and Spring night classes. There are ongoing Basic Literacy, Numeracy classes and English for speakers of other languages, under the guidance of Adult Basic Education. V.T.O.S. started in Castlerea in the year 1993 – 1994.  Kathleen McNulty is now the  coordinator here. As a stand alone centre the students can learn in an independent adult environment. Courses are accredited by the QQI (Formally FETAC)

VTOS creates opportunities for adults to return to education, make friends, open doors and to improve their confidence and skills. It allows individuals to look into different career directions and often our student’s progress to Third Level Education to explore career paths that they had only dreamt of. The tutors who work in VTOS Castlerea are all dedicated to the work of adult education. They are committed to teaching their subjects in which they all are highly qualified. It is enjoyable to work with adults and to play a part in helping them to reach their full potential especially when those individuals unleash talents and skills that can surpass their expectations.

In 2016 our programme changed, We now offer a wide range of QQI awards and subjects.  Our Art/Design course has proved to be very popular, besides exhibiting work locally, we recently took part in an episode of Irish TV. We are currently working with the Psychiatric Unit of Roscommon Hospital on a project that promotes Positive Mental Health. We also offer a new Tourism & Business Award to students and Early Childhood Care & Education at level 5 If you are interested in joining the VTOS course in Castlerea please contact us and we will be glad to speak with you about our course.
